Description

Founded in 1911, Ojai Valley School is a coed college-preparatory boarding and day school for nearly 300 students on two campuses in beautiful Ojai, California. Our high school, grades 9-12, provides a challenging academic program balanced by offerings in fine and performing arts, athletics, competitive robotics, outdoor education, and equestrian. Students thrive in a small community led by dedicated teachers who encourage critical thinking, problem solving, leadership, creativity, and collaboration – skills that prepare them well for entrance to a diverse cross-section of colleges and universities. The high school is located in the foothills of the Ojai Valley, 63 miles northwest of Los Angeles. The Upper Campus is nestled in a canyon adjacent to the national forest and provides students with a spectacular 195-acre setting in which to live and learn. The Lower Campus, located near downtown Ojai, houses resident students in grades 3-8.

Unique Characteristics

Many members of the Ojai Valley School community consider Outdoor Education, Equestrian and the Arts to be among the school’s greatest strengths. Experienced outdoor leaders guide trips to the surrounding mountains, canyons, deserts, and beaches, and teach students how to respect and care for our fragile environment. Destinations include Channel Islands National Park, Yosemite National Park, Sequoia National Park, Joshua Tree National Park, Zion National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, and other venues. Service and environmental restoration projects are an important part of the program. Equestrian features stables and training areas on both campuses and spectacular trails surrounding the Upper Campus. Riding instructors are experienced in jumping, equitation, and dressage. The program welcomes riders at all levels. In the Arts, students participate in stage productions, music recitals, concerts, and fine arts shows.

In fall 2021, the high school will open a new fine art studio and new multipurpose room to host music classes and live concerts. The community at OVS is student-centered, authentic, and fun loving. The small school size, shared traditions and experiences, and a devoted faculty foster a warm and welcoming school culture.
