Description

Founded in 1798, Milton Academy is an independent college preparatory K-12 school, boarding and day in grades 9-12. Milton develops confident, creative and independent thinkers. In an intimate, friendly setting, dedicated faculty give students the structure to learn and the support to take risks. Milton faculty surround students with opportunities for intellectual and personal growth—in and out of class. Milton students probe new areas of interest and maximize their strengths.

Located eight miles south of Boston, Milton’s 130-acre campus combines traditional brick and ivy buildings with cutting edge facilities—in science and performing arts. At Milton, it’s cool to be smart. Supported by teachers and classmates, students seek to meet the highest standards—in performance, athletics, the arts, leadership activity, and intellectual exploration.

Unique Characteristics

Milton’s is a thriving campus with the resources students need for studies, support and fun. At Milton, a diverse group of students from all four grades live in nine residential “houses” that are family-style and intimate. Lots of fun is had, and lifelong friendships are formed in Milton’s houses, rich with tradition and personality.

All students entering ninth grade take Class IV English. This course emphasizes basic skills in reading and interpreting major literary genres; in writing clear, coherent exposition; in honing grammar and usage skills; and in developing a shared vocabulary for talking about writing and literature.
