Founded in 1893 in southern Pennsylvania, Mercersburg Academy has nearly 130 years of perfecting what it means to be a proving ground for college and for life. Our 300-acre campus is a vibrant and egalitarian community of 446 students from across the country and around the world. Mercersburg believes deeply in our call to “Define Yourself Here,” and students do so through top-tier academic courses, residential life programming, and a breadth of extracurricular activities.
Guided by dedicated faculty and staff, students at Mercersburg build strength of character and intellect. They’re challenged to discover who they are, they’re empowered to express themselves, and they graduate prepared for college, for their careers, and for lives of leadership and service.
Unique Characteristics
Family-Style Dining: To foster an engaged community, Mercersburg has family-style meals every weekday for lunch and at dinner on Mondays. Students are randomly assigned to a table where they sit for several weeks before moving to a new table with a new group of students and faculty. This provides important and intentional opportunities to establish connections with peers.
Mercersburg Outdoor Education: Taking advantage of the school’s beautiful rural location, MOE teaches personal responsibility, leadership, integrity, and teamwork through activities like skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, rock climbing, backpacking, and kayaking.
Capstone Experiences: All Mercersburg students participate in a senior capstone program: MAPS or Springboard. Students are equipped to become creative and discerning thinkers by conducting high-level research and connecting with experts in their field of study to help solve real-world problems.
