Founded in 1894 in the hills of southern Virginia, Chatham Hall empowers young women to better the world by fostering each student’s intellect and character within a community of trust. In the classroom, in the lab, on the athletic field, and in the art studio, our girls engage with curiosity and passion. They also have a whole lot of fun! 95% of our students live on campus–and so do most of our faculty. This means you are living, working, and playing with your best friends and mentors. Signature programs such as Living Well and January Term prioritize balance, bliss, and wellness. The Leader in Residence and iQuest programs let students dare to dream. Our beautiful 362 acre campus offers trails, athletic fields, and space to enjoy the outdoors. Upon completing their Chatham Hall education, our students go forward to the finest universities, prepared for successful careers.
Unique Characteristics
Our Leader in Residence program dating back to 2003 that brings world leaders such as Benazir Bhutto, Mary Robinson, Jane Goodall, Venus Williams, and Ashley Judd to campus to interact with our students. 2. Our iQuest program that makes funds available for students and teachers to add local, national, and international travel components to their study. Students have applied for and received support to take on subjects as wide ranging as a science/chemistry internship to create a line of makeup, veterinary studies, self-sustaining environmental work, and humanitarian causes.
